Storing digital pictures

Everybody knows the impact digital cameras have caused in the way we take pictures in these last years. This fact has been accepted -or assumed in other cases-, but now there are some issues beyond the common features we look into these new cameras, as they are already a default, like the ammount of megapixels.

One of these new concerns is related to the way we store our pictures, since disk space is bigger and the need to keep safe this information is a top priority. The link I suggest in this post contains useful information to decide which is the best device to store our pictures, according to specific needs. It is important to keep in mind digital information should be backed up in different ways since these files are our "negatives".

Improving your pictures before printing them

Ok, I already have pictures from my last vacation... now what? Well, the easiest thing is to keep them in your PC and show them to your friends only and think you will print them later to let your parents see them.

We have talked about print our picture, but I have noticed there is a need to improve our photos before printing them.

You would say this step could be ommited, but you can be sure time spent improving your pictures well worth it. What can be improved then in this pictures taken in our state-of-the-art digital/film camera? Here you have a brief list of starting points:

1. Light quality. Our pictures could be too bright (over-exposed) or too dark (under-exposed).

2. Contrast. Did you noticed the sky is not as blue as it was in your last trip out of town?

3. Things that should not be there. Does it happen to you that there is a tree or a branch that takes a part in your picture that should not be there? Or what about the guy walking across our subject and us while pressing the shutter? For these kind of problems we have the posibility of cropping or reframing the image to improve the picture.

If you consider these three simple principles you will achive more breath-taking pictures when sending to print.

There are many tools for photography edition, but I strongly recommend Picasa for the following reasons:

1. Is free
2. Once you understand the way it works is easy to improve and handle our pictures
3. I like it so much so I recommend it to you

Here is the link where you can download Picasa for free ¡ Felices arreglos e impresiones !
